Display Size Statistics

Websites are measured in pixels, so the size a website appears on a monitor depends on how many pixels it can display (its resolution), not its physical size. A 19" monitor and another of 12" can both have the same pixel resolution (e.g. 1024 wide x 768 high) so on both monitors, a website with a width of 1,024 pixels, would occupy the full screen width.

    • Websites are still mainly built for viewing at a resolution of 1024x768 pixels. However, the following figures show that now only 17% of web users in the UK, 19% in Europe and 26% worldwide still use that resolution or lower (in yellow). The rest now use much higher resolutons.
    • Monitors with these higher resolutions display a 1024-width site proportionally smaller with space at the sides, so a larger website suits those better. Maybe the time has come to expand your site!
